History

Homewood Evangelical Free Church was the third branch work begun by the First Evangelical Free Church of Moline. The Expansion Program was called "Ventures in Faith" and was launched February 1963. Five acres of land were purchased at the corner of 60th Street and 34th Avenue for the new church.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held on November 1, 1964. A church consisting of 7,000 square feet was built at a cost of $60,000. The church was dedicated on October 17, 1965, and the first full program of church services was held the following Sunday. Fifty-four member units formed the nucleus for the new congregation.

The church grew rapidly and by 1973 additional space was a necessity. Thus, "The Big Step Forward" was born, and by May of 1974 ground was again broken for an addition which would provide a larger sanctuary, classroom space, a nursery, and offices. The completed church was dedicated on April 11, 1976.

Under the leadership of five dedicated pastors over twenty-five years, Homewood has been faithful in "Holding Forth the Word of Life". Spiritual growth opportunities and service avenues have abounded. An emphasis on evangelism has been present from the beginning. Missionaries have been supported. Lives have been touched and changed.

The work begun twenty-five years ago continues to be blessed by God and to Him we give all thanks, praise, and glory!

He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.
